Memovi Update: Photos, Reliability, and More

We have been busy. Since our last update, Memovi has grown from a simple clip recorder into something much more complete. Here is what changed and why.

Photos in Your Chapters

The most requested feature is here. You can now add photos to your video journal.

Photos become animated clips with a smooth Ken Burns zoom effect, so they blend naturally into your chapters instead of feeling like static interruptions. Capture a photo directly from the camera or import one from your gallery and assign it to any date.

You also get full control over how photos appear:

• Duration from 2 to 5 seconds per photo
• Animation style: zoom in, zoom out, or static
• Per-clip or global: set a default in Settings, or override it for individual clips in the editor

This is a Pro feature, available with the one-time purchase.

Choose Your Recording Quality

A new setting lets you pick between 720p, 1080p, and 4K recording resolution. Higher quality means sharper chapters. Lower quality means smaller files and faster processing. The choice is yours.

We also fixed a bug where flipping to the front camera would silently drop back to 720p regardless of your setting.

Overnight Chapters That Actually Work

This one matters. Some users reported that weekly and monthly chapters created overnight would get stuck and silently fail. You would see a notification that a chapter was being created, and then nothing.

We traced it to a conflict between the background task that creates chapters at midnight and the catch-up system that runs when you open the app. Both would try to create the same chapter simultaneously, and the video encoder cannot handle two processes at once.

The fix: a file-based lock that both systems check before starting. If one is already encoding, the other waits. Simple, reliable, and no more silent failures.

Chapter Creation Fixes

A few related bugs were squashed:

• Delete and recreate stuck: Creating a chapter, deleting it, then trying to create it again would get stuck in a perpetual processing loop. Fixed.
• Collection chapters blocked: If something went wrong during collection chapter creation, the app could get permanently stuck until a restart. All exit paths now properly reset.
• Recreate progress: Recreating a chapter used to show a static "Recreating chapter..." message. Now you see real-time progress.

Selfie Video Fix

Fixed a bug where selfie videos appeared flipped upside down on some devices.

Custom Chapter Timing

You can now choose when auto-chapters are created instead of always at midnight. All chapter types respect your chosen time.

Onboarding Polish

New users get an improved first experience with a redesigned celebration page, smarter camera primer, and better layout on tall screens.
